Integrated Design System Concept

How can we use design to improve the experience of patients and caretakers?

with a focus on unplanned extubation of endotracheal tubes in NICU patients, contextual research with medical industry professionals

Research

Our team’s research included affinitization (affinity diagramming) of ideas, exploring products for endotracheal tubes and existing NICU room setups, interviewing medical professionals, and a guided informational visit to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

form and materials

We wanted to use reclined and soft angles to emphasize safety and comfort. We chose woven vinyl fabrics for the isolette and chair for comfort and easy cleaning. The harness prototype was sewn from bamboo cotton, which is good for sensitive skin.
